The formation of deposits and specks on metallic or coated surfaces in contact with the melt in plastics processing is a problem area that has been little researched to date, but is economically relevant. The aim of this project is to investigate the final phase of deposit and speck formation, in particular the detachment of formed deposits. The resulting findings should complete the existing model of the initial adhesion of coatings, the growth of the coatings through to detachment and the resulting formation of specks. It is also planned to examine the transferability of the knowledge gained to different plastics. The results of this project can be used by small and medium-sized companies in the targeted development of solutions for machine design, material and coating selection and improved process sequences.
