Fields of activity & cooperations
The fields of activity of the Institute of Energy Research and Physical Technologies (IEPT) are oriented towards the key topic of "Tailor-made material systems for efficient energy generation" with applications in the areas of photovoltaics, energy-autonomous sensor technology to increase energy efficiency and micro fuel cells. IEPT's existing experience in the fields of nanostructured surface modification for efficient light coupling, surface analytics, femtosecond laser material processing and sensor technology or high-temperature sensor technology is thus focused on a central topic in order to develop a unique selling point in the field of energy research. This includes fundamental physical aspects as well as application-related issues through to the provision of functional samples. As a result, the medium-term research focus will be on researching optical and solid-state sensors to increase energy efficiency and investigating nanoscale materials for energy conversion. The institute cooperates very closely with the Lower Saxony Energy Research Center and the Fraunhofer Heinrich Hertz Institute, both located on the Energy Campus in Goslar.
